They report five inches of snow on the track ahead of their two-day fixture, which features the Sky Bet Chase on Saturday.

Snow was still falling on Monday morning with more forecast until tomorrow while daytime temperatures are expected to reach a high of 4C, but it will be below freezing overnight.

Under the snow, the going was described as good to soft, soft in places.

"The grass is in very good condition under the snow, but the question is whether the thaw will come in time and more snow is falling now," said course spokeswoman Kate Hills.

"We will do everything we can, but a lot depends upon whether temperatures rise and by how much."

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan told At The Races: "The forecast I looked at this morning for Saturday gave us a little bit of hope.

"It depends which forecast you look at but there are glimmers of hope.

"The forecast for Thursday night into Friday is a little bit difficult.

"We haven't got covers on. We've got a natural cover on it of snow and we'll see where that goes."
