Sky Sports News has teamed up with Racing For Change to provide a horse for viewers to get involved with during the 2013 flat season.

SSN tries racehorse ownership

Presenter Alex Hammond went to Andrew Balding's Kingsclere yard recently to select a horse, and she plumped for a lovely chestnut filly by leading sire Teofilo.

Sky Sports News viewers will have the chance to name the filly, create the colours she will run in, and be involved in other ways, hopefully giving more people the chance to understand what is involved in owning a racehorse.

Balding said of the filly Alex selected: "She's a fabulous model - I'd be hoping she'd be running in June but she wouldn't be a filly you would be wanting to put under pressure until she's ready.

"As far as a long-term prospect goes, I think she's the most exciting. She was a head turner in the sales ring and I think she's a lovely filly."

Racing For Change's Stephanie Jones added: "This is all about promoting British horse racing to a wider audience. It is projects like these that allow us to promote different arms of the sport so in this case it's ownership.

"This will allow Sky Sports News viewers to be able to see what it's like to be involved with racehorse ownership, see a bit more behind the scenes, learn a bit about how racehorses are trained, make their way on to the track and hopefully, lead to a winner."

Details of how to become involved will be available in the coming weeks.
