Shoegazer has been well supported to enhance AP McCoy's 40% strike rate for trainer David Pipe this season. The eight-year-old hasn't been seen since landing Listed Lord Mildmay chase at Newton Abbot in September which capped off a busy summer. The break should have freshened him up and, with previous wins at the track and on heavy going, he should give a good account of himself.
Formerly with Aidan O'Brien in his early days on the flat he was then switched to Clive Cox's yard where his progression continued to win two Group 3's on ground with plenty of give in it. Arguably the best of his performances on the flat was running second the Derby and Arc winning Workforce, so he is a high class horse and you couldn't fail to be taken with his decisive debut hurdling victory. Part-owner and legendary jumps jockey John Francome has issued strong comments about his chances, so a big run looks in order in this hot event.
Nick Williams' eight-year-old was the subject of some support for the Welsh National earlier in the week before being rerouted to this closing handicap chase. This son of Alflora has always looked a horse capable of taking a good prize, with plenty of good runs in Graded races and certainly will appreciate today's very soft going. Noel Fehily takes the ride and off 10st 8lbs today, he has every chance of landing this.
