Felix de Giles: Took the wrong course at Lingfield

Riding Newton Tonic for trainer Charlie Longsdon, De Giles was leading the six strong field when taking the wrong course after the fifth obstacle as they raced away from the stands.

The jockey was quick to realise his error and pulled his mount up shortly afterwards with the 2/1 favourite Take Over Sivola going on to lift the prize.

The Stewards interviewed de Giles and, having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, found him in breach of Rule (B)59.3.2.3 and guilty of taking the wrong course in that he went left of the C marker going away from the stands on to the hurdle course.

They suspended de Giles for 12 days as follows: Saturday 29, Monday 31, December 2012 and Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2, Thursday 3, Friday 4, Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Monday 7, Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 January 2013.
