Not seen since finishing last of 11 behind Hurricane Fly in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle in 2010, he is changing disciplines as a nine-year-old.
Overturn has also been entered in the same race, as well as Punjabi's stable companion Simonsig, but the latter is being aimed at a novice chase at Ascot just over a week later.
"Punjabi has been great. He's been off a long time but he didn't have a major problem, he just had a year off, a sabbatical would be the word," Henderson told At The Races.
"He'd been on the go a long time on the Flat before he came jumping.
"He's obviously not going to be a top-notch hurdler at his age, so we're going to switch to chasing. He's not very big and possibly lacks a little bit of scope.
"I was actually going to run Simonsig at Bangor but Barry (Geraghty) sat on him yesterday, he schooled and worked and we've decided he'll go to Ascot on the 22nd so Punjabi could easily reappear there."
