Tharawaat could get his second taste of the Grand National fences should Gordon Elliott decide to run him in the Betfred Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree on Saturday week.

Gordon Elliott: Trains Tharawaat

The seven-year-old belied his odds of 125-1 when staying on well to finish eighth behind Neptune Collonges in the John Smith's-sponsored marathon last season.

He made an encouraging return when sixth to Tofino Bay in the Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan on Sunday.

Elliott, who won the National with Silver Birch in 2007, intends giving Tharawaat another crack at the world's most famous steeplechase in April.

"Tharawaat will be given an entry in the Becher Chase and we will make our mind up nearer the time as he only ran on Sunday," said the County Meath handler.

"He has come out of the Troytown well and everything seems OK. He blew up but came home well so we were very pleased with his performance.

"We thought he would run a good race in last season's Grand National and he was staying on very strongly at the finish.

"We will be looking at the Grand National again with him and if we were lucky enough to get a Grand National on soft ground, it would suit him really well."
