Morandi ran out an impressive winner of the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud in France on Saturday.

Maxime Guyon: Rode the impressive Morandi

Jean-Claude Rouget's son of Holy Roman Emperor had won three of his five starts going into the ten furlong contest, most recently when slamming the opposition in a Longchamp Group Three by 12 lengths.

The juvenile produced more of the same under Maxime Guyon on his step up to the top level in defeating British raider Willie The Whipper by seven lengths.

The runner-up, trained by Ann Duffield, ran respectably on this step up in class following victories in a maiden and Listed contest but couldn't live with the easy winner.

Jamie Spencer's mount in turn finished three lengths clear of the third home, Miss You Too who was representing David Simcock and Ian Mongan.

Victory was Rouget's first in the race since 1996 when Shaka took the spoils with Fame And Glory, Passage Of Time and Sagacity some of the more recent names on the roll of honour.
