I've plenty of runners for the last day of the Welcome To Yorkshire York Ebor Festival.
I've only had Doncaster Rover three weeks and he goes in the Betfred City Of York Stakes. He's got a bit of mileage on the clock but you can tell he's been a decent horse. He's been a bit disappointing this year and they thought a change might help him. I'm happy with what he's done in a short time here, he worked well the other morning and we'll see what happens.
I'm surprised Flashman got in the Betfred Melrose Stakes. He's got to step up on what he's done but he's getting plenty of weight off them. That said, it looks an extremely competitive race, the best Melrose I've seen in a long time. He'll stay and he won't mind the ground.
Glen's Diamond is a little bit of enigma but the Weatherbys Insurance Lonsdale Cup has been the plan ever since he ran so well in the Yorkshire Cup here back in May. If he shapes well in this we'll think about taking him to Australia. It's a strong Lonsdale, Saddler's Rock and Cavalryman will take a bit of beating but if he comes third I'll be delighted.
We were very keen to have a go at the Betfred Ebor with Area Fifty One. He's never run over this far but if he does stay he'd have a small each-way chance. He's been running well all year but we'll find out if he stays in the race.
Simply Shining is a tough, genuine filly who has been given a bit of a chance by the handicapper in the Betfred The Bonus King Nursery. We'll see if it's enough for her to win on Saturday but I'm happy with her and she is in great order so she does have a chance.
Right Touch ran a good race first time and he's a three-parts brother to Acclamation. He'll improve for his first run but it just depends on the quality of the other horses in the European Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes. He's a nice horse who will win races.
I'm not sure where I'm at with Montcliffe ahead of the Lettergold Nursery. I'm clutching a little bit at straws. He ran a little bit free last time over seven furlongs at York and though we're going back over seven he's got no weight on his back. It's a roll of the dice but we'll see what happens.
Justonefortheroad has been struggling a bit with the handicapper but he's starting to relent and he's got a good draw in one in the Betfair Summer Double Second Leg Stakes. He probably needs more rain to be at his best. Gatepost is in 13 and we're sticking a hood on him. He was a little bit disappointing at Chester the other day but it's a valuable race and we'll see what happens.
