Richard Fahey: Summer loving

It’s fair to say this Saturday isn’t our busiest in terms of runners but Marwan Koukash likes his horses to run at Chester and we have a fair team heading there.

  • Gabrial The Viking: Shows ability (Sal Smithson - www.richardfahey.com)
  • Ortac Rock: May need reappearance (Sal Smithson - www.richardfahey.com)
  • Royal Connoisseur: Could kick on from win (Sal Smithson - www.richardfahey.com)
  • Ventura Quest (centre): Could bounce back (Sal Smithson - www.richardfahey.com)
  • Our Boy Jack: Yard favourite (Sal Smithson - www.richardfahey.com)

Lexi’s Hero and Ballesteros both run in the opening sportingbet Handicap and have decent draws in four and six respectively. The former ran over seven furlongs last time and this is more his trip.

Ballesteros looks to be running back into a bit of form and is a horse who would relish soft ground. The more rain the better for him as he’s barely had his conditions all year.

Gabrial ran in the Ebor at York last time and didn’t seem to stay but we’ll find out for certain in the Win 10,000,000 On Betdaq Colossus Chester Stakes. He came out of the last race well.

Gabrial The Viking is a horse we bought at the breeze-ups and I just worry that seven furlongs might just stretch him a little in the Betdaq 50 Free Bet / Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Stakes. He’s fit and well and shows a bit at home too so is capable of running well on debut – providing he stays.

Royal Connoisseur and Pushkin Museum go in the Stella Artois Handicap. The former finally got his head in front at Thirsk last time and might just be the sort of horse to go on now having gained a bit of confidence.

Pushkin Museum is in stall one which helps but I’d just worry about soft ground for him, I’m not convinced he acts on it. If it isn’t too testing he could go well.

Nashville is in at Thirsk on Friday night – and again here in the Marlen And Jean Roberts Celebration Handicap. Obviously we’ll see how he is on the morning before making the call but he does love cut in the ground.

We also run English Summer who has been a star of a horse. He’s in tremendous order right now, running above himself. He never wins by far as he pulls himself up in front but that helps with the handicapper and he should give another good account.

Our other runners are all at Beverley. Ortac Rock makes a belated reappearance in the Betfred Racing 'Like Us On Facebook' Handicap. He’s been off for a long period after fracturing his pelvis and will come on for the run. He probably needs further, and a little help from the handicapper too.

Ventura Quest ran no race whatsoever at Goodwood last time – he never raised a gallop. He’s come back in good nick and worked really well the other day. He goes in the Betfred 'Racing's Biggest Supporter' Handicap which is very competitive but my chap is better than the last run.

Our final runner is Our Boy Jack in the Betfred 'Goals Galore' Handicap. He bled terribly a couple of runs ago which he’s never done before or since but looks to be coming back to form. He ran a good race at Thirsk the last day and is handicapped to run well. I hope he does as he’s a real favourite in the yard.
