Man On The Spot previews all of the action from Haydock, Newmarket and Ascot that is live on Channel 4 and More 4.
12.55 Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash Handicap
MOVE IN TIME, a Listed winner as a juvenile, gained a morale-boosting victory in a conditions race at Newmarket last month having run well earlier behind Goodwood winner Take Cover at Chester. He's a rare runner in handicaps nowadays but looks fairly treated and Olivier Peslier gets the leg up. Frankie Dettori's mount, the speedy Swan Song, won at Chester in May and may have benefited from a break since her fifth at Epsom while Racy should go well again having beaten subsequent Goodwood scorer Barnet Fair, first reserve for this, here last time when Masamah was fifth.Goldream won't be fazed by the drop back to 5f and has been in excellent form.
13:30 Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers Handicap
Hassle was no match for Maid In Rio over track and trip last time and is 3lb higher now. But the winner was well handicapped that day and Clive Cox's charge had won earlier here over 1m6f so has to go on the short-list. Moidore hasn't raced since staying on strongly to score on soft going at Newcastle in May but Sir Frank Morgan has been busy. The latter was well behind Hassle here two runs ago but only beaten a head at Ripon on Tuesday. DEBDEBDEB appears to have more chance of staying this trip than Retirement Plan and could put his speed to good use if the pace isn't too strong. He's won twice over 1m6f and can pick off likely front-runner Earth Amber in the closing stages. Edge Of Sanity has his first run for Brian Ellison having been sold out of Jim Bolger's yard but surprise Goodwood winner Teak would have a great chance if getting a run from his reserve spot.
13:50 Haydock Park - Betfred 'Play Todays 1 1/2 Million Scoop6' Nursery
PATIENCE ALEXANDER was only third in the Albany Stakes at Ascot when starting joint favourite but is unbeaten over this shorter trip, landing a Listed race at York in May when beating the smart Tiggy Wiggy. She can give 14lb to Squats, who ran much too freely over 6f at Ascot last time but does seem to need that extra furlong and is still climbing the weights. Fuwairt is a decent sort but up 5lb for his Lingfield win and Sandown scorer Profitable and the exposed Low Cut Affair are racing from out of the handicap.
Communicator was last seen finishing third in the Chester Cup so it's strange to see him take a big drop in distance for this following a break.Proud Chieftain's best form is over shorter while Presburg has never won beyond 1m2f on Turf. That is also Cashpoint's best trip while Charles Camoin is another with possible stamina issues if there is a decent gallop. All of GRANDORIO's runs so far this season have come at York but he hasn't beaten far in any of them after a pipe-opener in May. He's versatile as to trip, having been placed over 2m last time, and looks a decent bet in this near the foot of the weights. Gone Dutch is a bit of a Polytrack specialist and would need one to drop out to get a run but is in decent form overall, as is fellow reserve Dolphin Village who had Semeen well behind at Thirsk in June.
14:20 Haydock Park - Betfred Goals Galore Handicap
Llanarmon Lad has done well this year, winning at Thirsk in May and Newmarket in June. He was also second in a competitive handicap at Epsom on Derby Day and should be thereabouts again. Salutation is another enjoying a successful season, having been placed at Royal Ascot and Goodwood. But he’s been raised a further 3lb to put him on a career-high mark and stablemate Busatto might be more interesting. Groundbreaking was behind Salutation at Ascot while Lahaag has been disappointing this year, as has Rye House. QUEENSBERRY RULES has had a light campaign to date but caught the eye at York last month when held up well off the pace. He can reverse that form with Chancery, who finished just ahead, if back to his best form of last season and could be a bit of value. Elhaame is another to consider having been dropped a couple of pounds since his sixth at Ascot.
14:40 Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile Handicap (Rnd)
MAGIC CITY was third in last week's Betfred Mile at Goodwood and is only a couple of pounds higher. He's probably best at the Sussex track but has also won at Epsom and Newbury and looks a good ride for Tom Queally. Richard Hughes normally partners the selection but has been drawn to take the ride here on Richard Fahey's Ingleby Angel. His latest second at Ayr puts him on the picture, though he was behind Navajo Chief at York in May. The latter disappointed next time on the Knavesmire, however, and more interesting is Dark Emerald who ran a back-to-form Heavy Metal to half-a-length at Haydock after winning at Newmarket. Don't Call Me hinted at a revival here last time and is another to consider, though he's closely matched with Hit The Jackpot. Tenor could struggle to win on Turf off his current mark.
14:55 Haydock Park - Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3)
Hillstar won a Group 2 at Ascot last year but has been slightly disappointing this time around having found one too good in his three starts in this country, though Newmarket conqueror Cavalryman franked the form of his latest run when landing the Goodwood Cup on his next start. TRUE STORY harboured classic pretensions after winning the Feilden Stakes on his reappearance but was an expensive failure in the Dante and then only seventh in the Derby itself. However, his run behind Mukhadram in the Coral-Eclipse was a very solid effort and he’s worth one more chance eased in grade. Amralah had Educate behind at Sandown two runs ago and beat Vancouverite and Nabucco in a Listed race at Newbury last time but is no certainty to beat the placed horses again and Danadana hasn’t fired so far this year.
15:15 Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic Handicap
Astronereus was fancied at Goodwood nine days ago but ran poorly. From Frost has much to prove on Turf after his Doncaster run but Wrangleris on a hat-trick after scoring at Salisbury and Haydock, though both of those victories were achieved on soft going. TRIP TO PARIS showed a big improvement to beat Our Gabriel over course and distance last month and is fancied to confirm the form, despite revised terms. Ed Dunlop's charge can also get the better of the Mark Johnston pair Swivel and Snow Squall but Pack Leader had excuses last time at Goodwood having looked a progressive sort earlier and he has the beating of Snow Squall on the form book.
15:35 Newmarket - German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes (Fillies' Group 3)
Improvement is expected from the maiden winners Efflorescence and Winters Moon given the Godolphin colours have been carried to victory in the last five renewals. Alonsoa and Pack Together also have strong claims as there was little to separate them in a Listed race at Sandown where they finished ahead of Bonnie Grey. Calypso Beat is another Listed winner over 6f on this course in June but the vote goes to ARABIAN QUEEN. She won a Group 2 over 6f here in good style last month and this extra furlong should suit David Elsowrth's filly on that evidence.
15:50 Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint Handicap
TELMEYD can continue his upward curve by completing the hat-trick under Steffi Hofer. He's been raised 9lb since scoring at Ripon but has the scope to defy the extra. Newmarket winner Highland Acclaim looks the danger as he's a consistent type and the step up in trip might catch out the filly Umneyati. Deeds Not Words beat Remember and Golden Steps at Newmarket last month but the latter has reversed the form at HQ subsequently. Rufford has his sights lowered and looks the pick of the remainder.
