Tip of the Day: Just Champion

The week hasn't really developed as might have been expected for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes, but things look set to get a whole lot rosier at Glorious Goodwood this afternoon.
Granted, Toronado was up against a near-unstoppable force in Kingman yesterday, but the odds-on losses of Beacon and Toormore will not have gone down well on Tuesday.
Ivawood was mightily impressive when beating Jungle Cat at Newmarket and should take his tally to 3-3 in the Qatar Bloodstock Richmond Stakes at 2.35.
However, you won't get rich backing him at odds-on and Championship makes more appeal later on the card when he tackles the Tatler Stakes (4.50), a race Hannon snr. and Hughes won with Casual Glimpse in 2011.
This lightly-raced colt found life tough in Group company after winning his maiden last May and again made no impression when beaten a long way on his seasonal bow at Kempton back in April.
There was, however, a lot more promise in his third back at the Sunbury venue last month and he has clearly benefited from having the month of May off.
Championship has been raised 4lb following a subsequent near miss over a mile in a good event at Doncaster but it simply looks a case of him finding his level now and it would be no surprise if today has been the target for a while.
Royal Seal rates the main danger back up in trip but the Mark Johnston-trained duo of Almargo and Ifwecan also merit respect.
I was very keen on the latter at Ayr last time following his fine run before Velox at Sandown previously, but he ran a lifeless race. He ran well in a nursery at this meeting last year, though, and I won't be shocked to see the three-year-old bounce straight back.
