Magnificent Seven let Rip
The Magnificent Seven managed to find three winners on the opening day of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Festival at Ripon, with Jim McGrath heading straight to the top of the leaderboard.
Seven racing personalities are given £50 each day to bet on any race during the festival, with any profits added together and shared equally between three charities - New Beginnings, the Injured Jockeys Fund and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The day had got off to a flyer, with McGrath finding 2/1 winner Shamrock Sheila and pocketing £100 for the good causes.
Michael Shinners was last to play his hand but the final race was well worth the wait as £25 each-way selection Bearskin scooted home in the maiden handicap.
It wasn't quite in the realms of Tiggy Wiggy, but Sky Bet's man won't mind after bagging a healthy sum for the charities and hitting second spot in the leaderboard.
Tom O'Ryan matched McGrath's exploits with a 2/1 success of his own, but he sits in third due to being a shade more cautious and playing each-way.Dave Ord hit the crossbar with a solid second, while Sky Sports duo Ed Chamberlin and Alex Hammond, who picked the same horse, came up short with a third.
The only 'celeb' to miss out on a place on day one was Richard Fahey, who opted for Godolphin runner Desert Snow.
But it was McGrath who stole the show in the opening exchanges and he has the edge heading into day two at Redcar on Sunday.
