The Michael Scudamore-trained nine-year-old was among the leading contenders for the world's most famous steeplechase and while he was unable to land a telling blow in the hands of Paul Carberry, he was far from disgraced in finishing seventh.

Scudamore is proud of his stable star's efforts and feels he now deserves a break before connections plot a potential route back to Merseyside next April.

Scudamore said: "He's come out of the race absolutely fine. He had a hard race, as you would expect, but all is well and he seems happy.

"He wasn't good enough on the day, but he ran his heart out. Paul said he was a bit keen early on and for that reason he hasn't quite got home.

"I would imagine that will be it for the season and we'll sit down with the owners and make a plan for next season in due course."

Scudamore sees no reason why his charge will not be back for another crack at the National in 2015 given that he is still a relatively young horse.

"It's interesting that the last three Grand National winners have all been 11-year-olds. It's becoming a bit of a trend," said the trainer.

"He's only a nine-year-old, he seemed to enjoy himself on Saturday and it was good to see him jump well, which I think was most people's main concern beforehand.

"If all goes well and he is still enjoying himself, there is no reason why he can't have another couple of goes at the race, but we'll see what happens."
