Clerk of the course Barry Johnson inspected the track at 7.30am but found the course to be unraceable following overnight rain.
The track could receive up to an inch of rain before racing and Johnston felt it best to make an early call.
He said: "We survived the night quite well but it's been hammering it down since 7am. We've got nine millimetres of rain in the cup, six from last night, and it's raining now.
"We could easily get an inch of rain before racing and there's some areas of standing water already.
"We have no chance, to be fair, so we thought it best to make an early call and let everyone know where we stand."
