A winner at the last two Cheltenham Festivals, having landed the Neptune Novices' Hurdle in 2012, the grey met with a setback earlier in this campaign but was expected to be back in time for the major races in the spring.

However, Henderson has now revealed that will not be the case.

"We've got to the point where we've had to make a decision to finish for the season," said Henderson. "It's in his own interest to make sure that he's 100% for next.

"He's sound and will be in gentle exercise, as much as the fracture line on the splint bone has gone, there's too much of a risk involved that something will go. It could easily be perfectly alright but we're not going to take the risk.

"About two-three months ago we said we'd miss the start of the season and review at Christmas and we have reviewed. Sad as it is, when you've got a good horse you have to bite the bullet and look after him.

"We've taken the advice we've been given and will keep him in light exercise until the spring, turn him out for the summer, bring him in next year and it'll be all repaired and, hopefully, he'll be ready for the King George next year."
