The Coolmore-owned daughter of Fastnet Rock, beaten just once in an 11-race career, had been drawn in stall seven for the prestigious Group One but the setback, surrounding swelling in her off-side foreleg, was discovered just hours after declaration time.
Trainer Mark Kavanagh said in a statement:
"Scans have just confirmed that there is damage in this tendon and therefore Atlantic Jewel will be scratched from Saturday's Cox Plate.
"At this stage she will be rested and the owners will make a decision on her future over the next few weeks."
That decision may be taken sooner as Michael Kirwan, general manager of Coolmore Australia, revealed that the tentative plans were to send the daughter of Fastnet Rock to be mated with Galileo.
