Bated Breath misses July Cup

Bated Breath, the long-time favourite for this afternoon's Darley July Cup at Newmarket, has been taken out of the race because of the ground.

Trainer Roger Charlton had stated that his participation depended on the weather and unfortunately a further 18 millimetres of rain fell at Headquarters.

Charlton tweeted: "After 18mm of rain over night at Newmarket Bated Breath will not be running in the July Cup on ground that will be very testing."

With Bated Breath's stablemate Genki set to take his chance, jockey James Doyle now switches to ride him.
