Fair Along rolled back the years with a determined triumph in the Listed Cleanevent Handicap Hurdle.
The Philip Hobbs-trained runner's most recent victory came over fences in December 2006 and he was later sent off favourite for the 2007 Arkle, in which he finished second behind My Way De Solzen.
Out of luck on the level and over fences and hurdles since, Fair Along was always prominent under 7lb claimer Rhys Flint and was clear coming down to the last.
Powerstation came through to push him to the line, but Fair Along just held on by a neck.
Hobbs said: "Any horse that wins a Triumph Hurdle is very likely to stay three miles and he does stay two miles on the Flat.
"I should think he will come back here next month for the Pertemps Hurdle qualifier and if it's better ground, that will be good."
Flint added: "He fired up the hill and did it brilliantly.
"He's only a small horse but his heart must be the size of a lion's."
