Martin Pipe - won with Fontanesi.
PIPE HAS LAST WORD IN COUNTY
By
Martin Pipe had the last word of the 2005 Festival when saddling Fontanesi to
take the concluding Vincent O'Brien County Handicap Hurdle.
Grand Jete looked like landing the spoils for Nicky Henderson when he powered
into the lead between the last two flights, but he made a hash of the final
hurdle.
He immediately lost the advantage and it was left to the David Johnson-owned
Fontanesi (16-1), in the hands of Timmy Murphy, to go on and win by two lengths
from Stance (11-1).
Borora, a 200-1 long-shot, was two lengths further away in third, with Grand
Jete (14-1) keeping on for fourth.
Johnson, who was celebrating his second winner of the meeting after Contraband's
victory on the opening day, said: "It has been a long way since Tuesday and we
have had one or two disappointments, but it is nice to come away with two
winners, the same as last year. We have got to be very pleased.
"The handicapper gave him a chance, and he is only a small horse. I was on my
way to the helicopter, but when I saw he was going so well I came back in!"
