TWISTON-DAVIES HITS THE TARGET
By
Nigel Twiston-Davies spread his net far and wide on Saturday and his Uttoxeter raid
paid off when Whereareyounow put up a fine staying performance to win the
£50,000 Singer & Friedlander Handicap Chase.
Whereareyounow (9-1), who carries the colours of Raymond Mould, was sent into
the lead from the outset by Warren Marston and jumped well to go clear of the
opposition from three out.
He galloped on through the testing ground to pass the post with 17 lengths to
spare over Gunner Welburn, with Kock De La Vesvre three-quarters of a length
further away in third.
Whereareyounow is among the entries for the John Smith's Grand National, but
Twiston-Davies's representative Emma Emtage said: "I am not sure if he will get
in and I don't know if it is the plan to go to Aintree.
"But I think he will have a run at Cheltenham - he is in the cross-country
race and the Mildmay Of Flete."
She went on: "We had 15 runners declared for today, and Carl (stable jockey
Llewellyn) had a hard choice to make in deciding where to go."
Gunner Welburn is 13 now but he still retains his enthusiasm, and he is also
in the National.
Trainer Andrew Balding said: "I don't think he will go there - he won't get
in. He could go for the Grand Military (at Sandown) or the Kim Muir (at
Cheltenham)."
