Carrigeen Victor clears the last.
VICTOR LEADS HOME ONE-TWO
By
Jessica Harrington, who unleashed her Arkle hopeful Ulaan Baatar at the same track two weeks ago, continued her good run of form when saddling the first two home in a pulsating finish to the Dr. P. J. Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Her challengers started to pull clear from the second-last and both the subsequent winner Carrigeen Victor and runner-up Well Presented jumped the final flight locked together.
They then tussled all the way up the home straight with just a length separating them at the post, and another nine back to Doodle Addle, who finished third under Davy Russell.
Harrington's regular jockey Barry Geraghty opted to ride the disappointing 9-4 favourite Newmill, who quickly weakened in the closing stages, while Mark The Man again failed to spark after a disappointing show at the Dublin track over Christmas.
However, with the 100-30 winner having just had four career outings, Mrs Harrington is happy to bide her time.
She said: "If Carrigeen Victor is going to be a very good horse, I think we may just give him another year as he's still very inexperienced for such a good chaser.
"More immediately I don't know exactly what to do. He's not in at Cheltenham so we will have to think about it.
"The other horse may go for the Midlands National or the Irish National as he stays further than he went here, especially on good ground."
"I wasn't sure which horse to shout for and I was not sure who was going to win coming over the last.
"I could not believe it and I was just praying that they both jumped it!"
