With a weaker-than-usual European raiding part heading over for the Turf, there is a growing sense of confidence behind home hope Kittens Joy.
His win in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park made the world sit up and take notice, especially as he waltzed clear of useful yardsticks Magistretti and Tycoon.
Untroubled by ground and pace in a race, he holds a very solid chance.
Trainer Dale Romans beamed: "He's very special." Lone Star Park could be the moment when he claims the world title.
Steven Crist says:
"Kittens Joy is very unusual for an American horse. It is very rare for one our mile turf horses to a, beat his elders, and b, to emerge as a world class grass horse.
"He is a leading candidate here especially if Ouija Board runs in the Filly & Mare Turf. We are astounded that isn't her confirmed target yet. She has so much in hand of the home team that she would have to fall over in order to be beaten."
