Graham Motion, trainer, Better Talk Now: This is so wonderful. Any win is an emotional thing but this seems to be even more so. This has turned out to be an amazing day, to have three horses run this well and all of them longshots. (Film Maker, 2nd, Filly & Mare Turf and Dance Away Capote, 5th, Juvenile Fillies.) It makes it even more special when you have a longshot and you get a win. I didn't tell Ramon (Dominguez) anything special. He knows this horse very well. And besides, he is starting to be a star; in fact he is a star in his own right now.
Ramon Dominguez, jockey, Better Talk Now: "It felt like an hour before they made it official, but it was more exciting after he went through all of that. That was kind of the move he made in the Sword Dancer. I didn't know how it was going to develop, but when I got to the five-eighths pole, I felt so good. I was getting good, everybody weakening and quickening and everybody going after Kitten's Joy, and I said, if he is going to win, today is going to be the day."
Dale Romans, trainer, second, Kitten's Joy: The whole time around he looked like he struggled. He tried the whole way. He showed the heart of a champion. He didn't look as comfortable as he did in New York. The turf was too wet. I didn't think it would make a difference but it obviously did.
(on the claim of foul) I couldn't tell from the angle I was watching but I think it was Powerscourt that might have caused the trouble.
(on if he should still get Eclipse Champion for Turf Male) He definitely is the turf Champion. I don't see how anyone could vote any other way.
John Velazquez, jockey, second, Kitten's Joy: I had to claim foul. I thought he had a chance at the three-sixteenths pole, but the winner hit me pretty hard. He put me in a bad spot. But this horse was having trouble with the ground, too. I slapped him a couple of times and he never quickened the way he usually does. When I got after him around the quarter-pole and I finally got him running, then he had to stop. It completely stopped our momentum. If we had a clean trip, we would have won it.
Aidan O'Brien, trainer, third-place finisher, Powerscourt: He ran a good race. I think it was a messy race, the way it unfolded. Jamie (Spencer, jockey) made his move on the back straight, and just said he got a little bit tired. I'm a bit disappointed, but you always are when you get beat.
Edgar Prado, jockey, fourth, Magistretti: I claimed foul against both the winner and Kitten's Joy. It was mainly intimidation -- one was coming out and one was coming in -- but I didn't think they would take anybody down. But it did cost us third.
Tyler Baze, jockey, eighth, Star Over the Bay: The course was way too deep. Everytime he took a step, it felt like he went down eight or 10 inches. Everytime I would give him his head and ask him to run, he would fall down. So then I had to pick him up and he'd start running again. But he just didn't like the course. He'll do much better when he gets on a firm course again.
