Aidan O'Brien's Powerscourt made a brave bid for the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf.

Spencer kicked the colt into a clear lead with four furlongs to go in the mile-and-a-half contest, a move which had most of his rivals in trouble.

However, he could not shake off Better Talk Now and Kitten's Joy in the straight.

Matters got very tight between the three contenders inside the final furlong, but it was the 33-1 outsider Better Talk Now who prevailed for Newmarket-born trainer Graham Motion, with hot favourite Kitten's Joy second ahead of the gallant Powerscourt.

A stewards' inquiry was quickly announced but after a short deliberation the result was allowed to stand.
