Jeremy Noseda, trainer, winner, Wilko: This feels fabulous. He's by Awesome Again, and after his second start in England, I told Susan Roy (original co-owner), this could be a dirt horse. An interest in the horse was sold to Mr. (J. Paul) Reddam and we talked about this race a couple of months ago. He always trained better on artifical surface than on grass. The plan is to transfer him to Craig Dollase and go from there.
Frankie Dettori, jockey, winner, Wilko: I can't believe it. I mean the horse worked well on the dirt but we were just hoping to hit the board. He got a great jump but I got outpaced to the quarter-pole, but they stopped so I pulled him out (side) straightaway. And then
I was just speechless. I don't know what to say. I expected to be really outpaced but I can't believe he jumped right out to second and Jeremy (Noseda) said be aggressive and don't hold back.
Tim Ritchey, trainer, second, Afleet Alex: He ran a gutsy race. He kind of stumbled leaving there. He had to check a little bit. He had to make up a lot of ground. We were further back than we were planning to be. But that happens in racing. He showed his heart. I thought he was going to get there, but the other horse got him.
Jeremy Rose, jockey, second, Afleet Alex: He was perfect, right on the money. He did everything right. I got caught wider than I wanted to be and I got shuffled back out of the gate. That cost me the race.
Nick Zito, trainer, third, Sun King: I am very happy with him. He ran his guts out, but I think we would have done it better on the outside. That's been two races he's been down on the rail. I wish he (Edgar Prado) didn't put him down there.
Edgar Prado, jockey, third Sun King: He ran a beautiful race. He took a lot of it (dirt), but he was still trying hard. We got to the three-eighths pole and he gave me everything he had. It wasn't enough. He's still a good horse. He broke well and settled well and he will improve.
Bob Baffert, trainer, fifth, Roman Ruler: Corey (Nakatani) said he wasn't getting a hold of the track. You've got to be aggressive with this horse. You have to put it to him. He's got to be ridden a certain way and we are trying figure out his style.
Corey Nakatani, jockey, fifth, Roman Ruler: He was slipping the whole way and the horse was not handling the track. He's better than that. He never tried. His head was in the air the whole way. I have ridden thousands of horses and I know when they are not handling the track.
John Velazquez, jockey, sixth, Proud Accolade: He didn't fire at all. All I can think of is that he didn't like the dirt coming back at him.
