World Championships individual medley finalist Hannah Miley has been named in a 31-strong Great Britain team for the European Short-Course Championships in Turkey next month.
Miley, who was fourth in the 400 metres individual medley in Rome in August, spearheads a side which combines a mixture of youth in the form of European junior 5km champion Eleanor Faulkner and the experience of Darren Mew, who has competed in five world championships.
Also competing will be Stephanie Proud, the University of Florida team-mate of world champion Gemma Spofforth.
The Durham backstroker enjoyed a highly-successful junior career but appeared to struggle to make the transition to senior ranks.
However, Proud has enjoyed a fruitful 2009 and although she failed to make the World Championship team, the 21-year-old instead won the 200m backstroke at the World University Games.
Head coach Dennis Pursley will lead the side in Istanbul in an event he sees as preparation for next August's European Championships in Budapest, Hungary and the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, which take place in October.
"We've got a mix of swimmers on this team," he said.
"It's a combination of seasoned veterans with the next generation of senior athletes.
"Everyone will use the championships for their own purposes as part of their training plans but for the majority it will be a preparation meet for the main competitions in 2010.
"There will be some swimmers partially rested and they will use the meet to stand up and try to get best times but for many it's part of their long-term training programme looking beyond to next season's long-course season."
