The in-form New York Islanders extended their winning run to four matches by beating the Edmonton Oilers 3-1.
Defenceman Brendan Witt was the unlikely goal hero, scoring twice in the second period to set up the victory.
The Islanders had fallen behind when Ethan Moreau scored for the Oilers in the first period, however the lead did not last long and John Tavares soon levelled before Witt took centre stage.
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2, with goals from Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, who both scored twice, plus David Laliberte and Scott Hartnell. Tampa Bay scored through Steven Stamkos and James Helpern.
The Phoenix Coyotes, whose sale to the NHL has been approved, lost 5-3 to the Los Angeles Kings for whom Ryan Smith scored twice.
