British Olympian single sculler Alan Campbell scorched into the record books on a baking day at the Henley Royal Regatta.
In winning his heat in the Diamond Challenge Sculls event, the Northern Irishman made it to the Barrier (a distance of 2089 feet) in a time of two minutes four seconds.
The man whose record he smashed by a full second, Mahe Drysdale of New Zealand, also made it safely through as a heat winner, as did Olaf Tufte, the Olympic champion from Norway, and Tim Maeyens from Belgium.
In the same event, Zhang Shumying became the first competitor from China to win a heat at Henley.
Britain's Beijing gold medallists Andrew Triggs Hodge and Pete Reed claimed a comfortable victory in the Silver Goblets for men's pairs.
Meanwhile, just a foot separated the reserve boats of Oxford and Cambridge - Isis and Goldie, respectively - as the former edged home first.
