Teenager Steph Twell has revealed her delight at achieving the Olympic Games 1500 metres qualifying standard at Sunday's IAAF Permit Meeting in Rieti.
The 18-year-old from Aldershot finished seventh in a time of four minutes 6.70 seconds, confirming her great potential for the future.
Twell, who won the European junior cross country title last December and the European Junior Championships 1500m silver medal in July, has already broken Zola Budd's British Under-20 3000m record.
"The first lap felt like a dream, it was so easy. I've never felt so comfortable in a race in my life," said Twell, who lowered her previous best by over four seconds as she achieved the 'A' qualifying standard for Beijing.
"It was awesome. I loved it. But I couldn't believe the time."
Fellow Briton Katrina Wootton also set a personal best finishing 11th in 4mins 08.10secs in the race, won by Russia's former world champion Olga Yegorova in 4min 03.27sec.
