Australia's Craig Mottram will compete at the Norwich Union British Grand Prix in Sheffield on July 15.
The 26-year-old will compete at the Don Valley stadium over 3,000 metres, an event in which he brilliantly defended his IAAF World Cup title in Athens last summer.
The Commonwealth 5,000m silver-medallist believes the Sheffield venue is another important race in the build-up to August's World Championships in Osaka.
Mottram, the 5,000m bronze medallist two years ago, said: "I'll go in as the underdog and hopefully surprise a few people at the worlds.
"I love racing in Britain and can't wait to return to Sheffield, but my main goal is in Osaka later this summer so I'm just building up to that."
Mottram - who posted the sixth-fastest two miles time in history in winning the Nike Prefontaine Classic in eight minutes, 3.5 seconds at the weekend - savoured his win against strong opposition in the USA, but knows with the season now getting into full swing, there is no room for complacency.
He said: "Of course it is nice to beat your rivals in races now because it lays down a marker for the major championships.
"But at the moment my main concern is racing well and for myself."
