David Longstaff's late goal ensured Newcastle jumped four places to the top of the Elite League table with a 3-2 win over Sheffield.

Mike Berry put the Vipers ahead early on but Doug Sheppard drew the Steelers level before Tyler Kindle's powerplay goal restored the visitors' advantage.

Sheppard equalised once again with a powerplay effort of his own but Longstaff made the points safe by firing home a well-placed winner.
