The Champions League holders were 1/10 favourites to seal their passage to the second round when the draw was originally made, but two defeats on the road has seen them slip to third in their group behind Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk with one game remaining.

The Blues are now 33/1 to retain their trophy, and Stan James have them at 5/2 to progress with Juventus preferred at 4/11 with William Hill and Sky Bet.

Chelsea host FC Nordsjaelland in their last group game and will be short odds to pick up three points, but they will hope Group E leaders Shakhtar record a victory against Juventus and not settle for the draw.

Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: "Di Matteo's on a bad run both domestically and in Europe, and their Champions League progress is now out of their hands.

"They now need to beat Nordsjaelland and hope Shakhtar beat Juventus in their final group game to avoid becoming the first holders to be eliminated in the group stage.

Celtic lost 3-1 in Benfica but remain on course to qualify from Group G according to the layers, who have them at 8/15 and Benfica at 6/4.

At the head of the market, Barcelona remain 5/2 favourites ahead of Real Madrid, while Bayern Munich are 8/1 with Ladbrokes having drawn in Valencia.

Manchester United are next at 10/1 despite dropping points for the first time this season with a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray, and it's 10/1 bar.
