Man City 11/2 to Scrape Through

Manchester City are out to 50/1 to win the Champions League - and now as big as 11/2 with bet365 to qualify for the next round - after they crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Ajax on Wednesday night.

Ajax defeated Manchester City 3-1

Samir Nasri put them on course for victory in what Roberto Mancini had described as a must-win Group D encounter in Amsterdam with an early strike but the Dutch side hit back to get their first win of the competition thanks to goals from Siem de Jong, Niklas Moisander and Christian Eriksen.

The defeat left the Premier League champions, who were 16/1 to lift the trophy before this clash, bottom of the group with just one point from three games - six behind leaders Borussia Dortmund and five behind Real Madrid - and staring at the possibility of failing to reach the knockout phase for a second successive season.

Meanwhile Arsenal also suffered defeat on Wednesday night as they lost 2-0 at home to Schalke and the Gunners can now be backed at a general price of 25/1 to become European champions.

The German outfit now overtake Arsene Wenger's men at the top of Group B, and were good value for their victory, secured by second-half goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ibrahim Afellay.

Arsenal should still reach the second round as they sit three points clear of third place Olympiakos but the result hardly suggests they're good enough to go all the way.

The tournament favourites after the third round of matches are Barcelona at 5/2 (Paddy Power) while Real Madrid are next in the running at 7/2 (General). Bayern Munich (10/1), Manchester United (11/1) and Borussia Dortmund (14/1, Coral) are in the chasing pack, followed by Chelsea at 18/1 (Paddy Power and Boylesports).
