Orfevre is now a clear favourite for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after both Danedream and Nathaniel were ruled out of Sunday's race.

Nathaniel: Joins Danedream as an Arc absentee

News broke on Monday evening that Danedream's participation was in doubt, and that was confirmed on Tuesday morning as Cologne racecourse, where Peter Schiergen's fantastic mare is stabled, was dramatically placed into quarantine.

France Galop's media manager Julien Pescatore said: "There is a quarantine period of 90 days, and for that reason Danedream will not be able to run in the Arc.

"It is really sad that she will not be able to run, but there is nothing we can do about it."

Just hours later, John Gosden confirmed that his stable star Nathaniel would also missed the contest having provided unsatisfactory blood tests.

Most firms chose to refund stakes on Danedream given the unfortunate circumstances surrounding her absence, whereas punters who backed Nathaniel have in general lost out.

Ladbrokes did confirm that they'll refund bets placed on Tuesday, but only Boylesports were initially prepared to extend that back to September 19.

All of this means that Japanese star Orfevre has been cut to a best of 11/4, with dual Derby winner Camelot now clear second-favourite at 4/1.

Saoinois and Shareta can both be backed at 8/1, ahead of Masterstroke and St Nicholas Abbey at 10s. Most of the 12/1 about Sea Moon has disappeared and he's now a general 11/1 chance, and it's 16/1 bar.
