Priced at 10/1 on the eve of the race, Sir Mark Prescott's horse was backed all the way down to 11/2 favouritism and lived up to the billing by galloping his way to a five-length success.
The five-year-old will pick up just a 4lb penalty should he run at York and would therefore look undeniably well-handicapped, so it was little surprise to see bookmakers take swift evasive action.
Sky Bet cut him to 5/1 from 20s, while Paddy Power were even more extreme in cutting him to 4/1 from the same price.
Stan James initially reacted by going 7/1 from 14s but soon revised their market once more to make Motivado their 5/1 favourite, while BetVictor had to cut their top-price of 7/1 to a joint-best of 6s.
Ladbrokes and bet365 trimmed runner-up A Boy Named Suzi to 20/1 from 25s while the sponsors cut John Dunlop's Harlestone Times to 25/1 from 33/1 following an improved effort in fourth.
John Gosden enjoyed further Group One success when The Fugue won the Nassau Stakes in impressive fashion, and he's now 3/1 from 7/2 to be the top trainer this season with Ladbrokes.
The firm's David Williams said: "Gosden's run of blistering form continues and the trainers' title is now a very realistic proposition."
Rejected by stable jockey William Buick in favour of market leader Izzi Top, The Fugue travelled powerfully under a confident Richard Hughes before unleashing a race-winning turn of foot a furlong from home.
It was a success that effectively sealed the Racing UK-sponsored Top Jockey award for Hughes, to the delight of those who'd backed him at odds of around 5/4 prior to the meeting.
Stan James make the winner a 20/1 shot in their Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe betting while William Hill have her as their clear 7/2 favourite for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mares' Turf.
