12.40 ANTON DOLIN was racing off nearly his top mark when last seen on the racecourse and hailing from Dr Richard Newland's in form yard, it's difficult to entirely ignore the four-year-old. Brian Ellison has been out of luck on the level of late but has saddled the odd NH winner here and there and CALAF should go close given that the beaten favourite has won under these tough conditions. ZARZAL is the other horse to consider in the opening contest from my viewpoint.
'Favourite factor': This is a new race on the Ludlow card with which to start proceedings.
1.10 Six-year-old's have won five of the six renewals to date, with vintage representatives coming to the gig on a five timer on this occasion. It's worth noting that only three six-year-old's have contested the race in the last two years, the lone 'loser' being sent off at 66/1. Four six-year-old's have been declared this time around and the trio that are preferred are listed in order of preference as CARRIGMORNA KING, DREAM RISK and VICTOR ECHO. The thousands of you wanting to back the other vintage representative (Heavenstown) are asked to form orderly overnight queues outside the betting shops up and down the land!
'Favourite factor': Six of the seven favourites have secured toteplacepot positions via six renewals to date, statistics which include four winners.
1.45 Five-year-old's lead the six-year-old's 3-2 via just the five renewals to date, whilst holding sway (8/4) via the 13 available toteplacepot positions. The pick of the four five-year-old's in the line will hopefully prove to be DEFINITE DREAM, RETURN SPRING and THIRD OF THE THIRD. The alternative five-year-old is Harris for those of you that want to invest in each way doubles with Heavenstown!
'Favourite factor': Three of the six market leaders have secured toteplacepot positions thus far, statistics which include two winners.
2.15 Evan Williams has taken the same path that he trod in this race last year by declaring three horses at the five day stage. Little wonder really, as Evan eventually offered the green light to the (2/1) winner of the contest. Evan has offered the green light to SUBLIME TALENT and GET IT ON this time around, with connections of the respective stable companions arguably having most to fear from COOL TOUCH.
'Favourite factor': Last year's inaugural 13/8 market leader was the only horse in the field not to complete the course (pulled up) behind the successful 2/1 second favourite.
2.50 Horses carrying a minimum burden of 11-6 have secured all five available toteplacepot positions to date. FIDELOR and NUMBERCRUNCHER are this year's two qualifiers and both horses will figure in my toteplacepot permutation. That said, course and distance winner (different occasions) DERWYN PRIDE has secured a medal of each colour from just the three racecourse assignments to date whereby Peter Bowen's eight-year-old might yet smuggle his way into my plans come sun up. DERWYN PRIDE won the next race on the card 12 months on.
'Favourite factor': The inaugural 7/2 favourite was one of three horses which failed to complete the course before last year's successful 85/40 market leader redressed the balance.
3.20 All five gold medallists have been burdened with 10-7 or more whereby the bottom two horses are left on the substitutes bench by yours truly. The pick of the eight remaining runners (before potential claims come into account) include DANCING DAFFODIL and the Evan Williams pair TIP POT MAN and FIVE OUT OF FIVE.
'Favourite factor': Four of the six favourites have finished in the frame to date via five renewals (one winner).
