Double Olympic champion Mo Farah has confirmed he will compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Farah made the announcement on Twitter on Monday evening.

The 31-year-old wrote: "Hi guys! I will be running in the Commonwealth Games this year..!! See you in Glasgow..!! Shabba....!!

"Haven't decided which events to compete in Commonwealth Games yet... 1500m/5000m/10,000m ?? Will let you know as soon as I decide...!!"

It is possible he could attempt the same double as he achieved in the Olympic Stadium in London 2012 in the 5,000metres and 10,000m.

Alternatively Farah would compete in just one of those events.

It is almost certain he will not run the marathon after his coach Alberto Salazar advised him to forget about the discipline until after the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Farah finished eighth on his marathon debut in London in April.

The marathon opens the athletics programme in Glasgow on July 27.

The 5,000m final takes place that evening, with the 10,000m on August 1.

Farah had hoped to delay any decision about his participation in the Games until he had run the Sainsbury's Glasgow Grand Prix on July 12, but Team England insisted its athletics selection panel would meet on June 2, with the squad announced a week later.

It remains to be seen if double world champion Farah will also compete in the European Championships in Zurich from August 12 to 17.

Farah finished ninth in the 5,000m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, but withdrew from the Delhi Games four years ago, citing the need for a break.
