Alison's Sheppard's fifth Olympics - a record for a British swimmer - came
to a sad end when she failed to make the final of the 50m freestyle.
The 31-year-old was fifth in her semi-final in a time of 25.36 - exactly the
same time as in her morning heat.
But the second semi was much quicker and left Sheppard in 12th overall,
meaning Britain have just three races left to claim another medal.
David Davies and Graeme Smith go in the 1,500m freestyle and the men and women
will contest the finals of the 4x100m medley relay.
"It wasn't the best was it, 12th when I was hoping to make the final?" said
Sheppard, who was only 15 at her first Olympics in Seoul.
"Tonight just really wasn't my night. I just couldn't raise my game. That's
swimming, that's sport. You have to take the bad with the good.
"I've really enjoyed my experience at the Olympics, it's been the best I've
ever been to. I've had fun with the team, there's such a great atmosphere within
the group of swimmers and I'm sure they'll help me get over it."
