American teenager Michael Phelps swept to his fourth gold medal of the Games
when he won the 200m individual medley in an Olympic record.
The 19-year-old led the entire way and never looked in danger as he powered to
victory in 1min 55.14secs, leaving United States compatriot Ryan Lochte to take
second place in 1:58.78, with George Bovell of Trinidad back in third just
two-hundreths of a second slower.
Phelps, who had been offered one million US dollars (£535,000) by sponsors to
eclipse the seven golds of Mark Spitz in Munich in 1972, can still make it six
golds at these Games with two relays to come.
