Kelly Holmes will receive a civic reception when she returns home on
Wednesday.
The former Army sergeant became Britain's greatest-ever female Olympian when
she added the 1,500metres gold to her 800m title in Athens on Saturday.
The 34-year-old will carry the flag for the Great Britain team during
Sunday's closing ceremony.
And Holmes can expect to be honoured by her home county of Kent when she
arrives back in England next week.
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council have planned an open-top bus parade from
near her home in the village of Hildenborough at 3pm, which will move on to
Tonbridge High Street, just a stone's throw from where the double Olympic
champion used to train as a youngster.
The deputy mayor, Councillor Derek Still, and other dignitaries have also
organised a reception at Tonbridge Castle, where Holmes and her family and
friends will be able to celebrate her achievements.
There will be a chance for fans to greet Holmes on the castle lawn at around
4.15pm.
A spokesman for Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council said: "We will be
presenting a certificate to Kelly to recognise her Olympic success.
"We want to congratulate Kelly and express the pride felt in her achievement
on behalf of the council and the people of the borough."
