Russia's Yuriy Borzakovskiy won the men's 800metres final tonight despite a
season's best performance from South African Mbulaeni Mulaudzi.
Borzakovskiy took the top prize but had to hold off a powerful finish from
Mulaudiz who settled for silver, just 0.16 of a second behind.
Denmark's Wilson Kipketer took the bronze by some distance from Morocco's
Mouhssin Chehibi.
Borzakovskiy produced a storming finish over the final 100 metres to take the
tape.
He had been second in his semi-final behind Wilfred Bungei but the Kenyan
could not get near the Russian in the final.
Algeria's Djabir Said Guerni led at the halfway point before Bungei took the
lead going into the finish.
He was passed by Kipketer, a three-time world champion, on the final bend.
But Borzakovskiy powered forward from fifth to outpace Kipketer and Mulaudzi
on the line.
