LTA URGE RUSEDSKI: 'SAVE IT FOR LATER'
The Lawn Tennis Association have invited Greg Rusedski to "share his
thoughts" on the future of the British game with them on his return from the
Olympics after his public outburst in Sydney today.
The British number two called for a massive shake-up at the LTA and suggested
the cash mountain amassed by Wimbledon should go to other athletes who had a
chance of winning Olympic medals rather than tennis players.
"The money other athletes have is nothing compared to the money our
Federation has at the LTA," said Rusedski.
"With the finance we have we could go out and search more in the minorities
and for people in the council estates."
Rusedski also questioned the sacking of director of tennis Richard Lewis
following Britain's humiliating Davis Cup defeat against Ecuador in July.
He later apologised for the timing of his outburst, but not the content.
But the LTA called on Rusedski to concentrate on the Olympics and save his
grievances for later.
A spokesman said: "We hope that Greg and the players will be able to
concentrate on the task in hand, namely representing Great Britain in the
Olympic Games.
"If Greg has some thoughts about the future of British tennis that he would
like to share with us then we will be happy to hear them on his return from
Sydney."
