FOSTER DISCIPLINED OVER BODYSUIT
By Peter Whitfield, PA Sport, Sydney
British swimmer Mark Foster has been disciplined by the British Olympic
Association for wearing a Speedo branded bodysuit instead of the BOA-approved
bodysuit during Friday's men's 50m freestyle final.
The BOA said Foster had broken the Team GB guidelines for bodysuits which were
agreed with the athletes, the Amateur Swimming Federation of Great Britain and
Speedo prior to the Games.
Foster, from Bath, has had his accreditation removed and must now move out of
the Athletes' Village into non-accredited accommodation before he flies home on
Wednesday.
The statement read: "A suit was provided to him direct by Speedo, with whom
Mark is contracted, bypassing the arrangements put in place with the BOA for the
supply of swimming bodysuits.
"Mark accepted that he had contravened the specific competition clothing
agreement, which he had entered into with the BOA.
"As a result of this action he has had his accreditation withdrawn."
BOA Chef de Mission Simon Clegg said: "It gives me absolutely no pleasure to
take this action against someone who has been to four Olympic Games but we
simply cannot have one athlete's interests being put above those of the entire
team. Mark signed the agreement and has accepted the decision."
