GIBNEY FOURTH FOR IRELAND
Irish swimmer Chantal Gibney - after her elimination
in the 400 metres freestyle - placed fourth in her heat of the 200m on Monday.
Dublin's Trojan Swim Club member clocked two minutes 05.24secs, well behind
the 2mins 01.93secs produced by heat winner Rania Elwani of Egypt.
Colin Lowth from Drogheda Swimming Club produced a disappointing performance.
The 22-year-old, who took up swimming to keep him off the streets, finished
eighth and last in his 200m butterfly in a time of 2:03.91. Victory went to
Yugoslavia's Vladan Markovic who returned 2:00.11.
