COXLESS FOUR IN SEMIS
Ireland progressed into the semi-final of the men's lightweight coxless four
repechage by finishing third at the Sydney International Regatta course.
The quartet of Neal Byrne, Neville Maxwell, Gearoid Towey and Anthony O'Connor
clocked 6:13.00 over the 2000 metres course. Ahead of the Irish squad, Denmark
crossed the line first in 6:08.63 with Russia second in a time of 6:10.35.
In the individual three day event dressage, meanwhile, Austin O'Connor on
Fabio and Trevor Smith - riding High Scope - finished 22nd and 34th after the
dressage stage scoring 52.80 and 65.00 penalties.
The overnight leader at Horsley Park was Customs Made, ridden by the American
David O'Connor with 29.00 penalties ahead of Germany's Marina Koehncke
(Longchamps) on 34.80 and the Greek Heidi Antikatzdis (Michaelmas) on 37.40.
At the Aquatic Centre, Chantal Gibney again failed to make any Olympic
progress. She finished seventh in her 100 metres freestyle heat in a time of
58.79. The winner was Ukraine's Olga Mukomol in 56.59.
In her first Europe Fleet sailing race, Maria Coleman finished 11th. In the
second, her time of 57:57 moved the Copenhagen-based 32-year-old to sixth
overall with a net score of 16.
Briton Shirley Robertson was overnight leader with seven net points, two
better than Sari Multala of Finland with Spain's Neus Garriga lying third.
