KERLY WANTS MORE ADVENTURE
Sean Kerly, Great Britain's goal-scoring hero in the team's gold medal triumph
in Seoul in 1988, believes the men's side must adopt a more adventurous approach
when they play Malaysia in their third game on Wednesday.
After slipping to successive defeats against reigning Olympic and world
champions Holland and three-times former winners Pakistan, the British know they
must bounce back to have any chance of achieving their objective of finishing in
the top six.
Kerly said: "They need to go out there and impose themselves straight away. "I
think they've been too considered up to now. I'd like to see the players get
excited, show passion and really get emotional."
The last time Britain met the Malaysians they won 2-1 in the Olympic
qualifying tournament in Japan in March.
After suffering a calamitous 8-1 defeat at the hands of Pakistan on Monday,
captain Jon Wyatt said the squad were grateful to have a day off.
"It gives us the chance to sort out both our defensive and offensive penalty
corners," he said.
"We do have a strong routine and although we only scored once from 12 against
Pakistan, they did much the same in a 2-2 draw against Canada.
"I know our corner specialist Calum Giles wasn't on the pitch for a series of
corners against Pakistan but it's the coach's call, not mine. But it is
frustrating."
