Pakistan add another goal
BRITAIN CRUSHED BY PAKISTAN POWER
Great Britain's men suffered a humiliating 8-1 thrashing at the hands of
Pakistan in the men's hockey on Day Three on the Olympic Games in Sydney.
Pakistan penalty corner ace Sohail Abbas was Britain's chief tormentor,
grabbing a first-half hat-trick to set his country on the way to a best ever
Olympic win.
It was Britain's heaviest defeat since matches began between the two countries
in 1948, and it equalled their worst ever Olympic defeat - Australia's 7-0 win
in Toyko in 1964.
Abbas fired Pakistan 2-0 up, Mohammed Nadeem added a third and - after Mark
Pearn had pulled a goal back - Abbas wrapped up his hat-trick four minutes
before the break.
Pakistan's four second-half goals came from Atif Bashir (2) and Nadeem, who
completed the rout with his second goal in the final minute.
