Sixsmith - calling it a day
SIXSMITH TO CALL IT A DAY
Jane Sixsmith is to retire from international competition after spearheading
the Great Britain attack in Sydney.
Sutton Coldfield-based Sixsmith, 33, feels the time has come to bow out after
more than a decade as Britain's leading marksman.
Sixsmith, who leads the attack in Sunday's opening match against the hosts
Australia, said: "No-one is going to talk me into carrying on with Britain or
England."
Sixsmith, who will continue to play for Sutton Coldfield, is competing in her
fourth Games and won bronze in Barcelona in 1992.
She believes that Britain have an excellent chance of a top three finish in
Sydney - despite their daunting start against the hosts in front of what will be
a partisan crowd.
She added: "I can honestly say that any of the 16 players we will use are as
capable as any of the others. We feel very confident after having a very good
preparation.
"This is the best of the four Olympic teams that I have been in and I will be
really disappointed if we do not get into the top three.
"We went within an inch of the bronze in Atlanta four years ago and hopefully
that is not going to happen again. Australia will be a tough start but this
might be the time to play them before they have really got into the
competition."
