Alvin Kraenzlein - four golds (Allsport).
1900 - Paris
The second Olympic Games were held in de Coubertin's hometown of
Paris in 1900, but they turned out to be a failure.
Reduced to a mere
appendage to the World Exhibition of that year, the events of the
Olympics were spread out over five months.
Poor organisation and poor
attendance made things worse; some of the athletes were actually
unaware that the meet they had taken part in was the Olympics.
