GERMANS TAKE GOLD IN TEAM DRESSAGE
By PA Sport Staff
Great Britain slipped down the table in the team dressage as favourites
Germany grabbed gold ahead of Holland and the United States.
The Brits were sixth after the first day and still in with a chance of moving
into bronze medal position but Kirsty Mepham on Dikkiloo (1570 points) and
Richard Davison on Askari (1602) failed to add a substantial score to the
cause.
With the top three scores counting towards the final, Mepham's was not used in
the 4898 total.
Her horse struggled on the wet ground with rain having soaked Horsley Park
on Tuesday.
"I thought he (Dikkiloo) would cope with that sort of going," Mepham said,
"but unfortunately when he feels the going under him slipping, he backs off a
bit, but that's life."
Germany, thanks to world champion and 1996 individual dressage gold medallist
Isabell Werth's high score of 1908, cruised to the title with 5632 points.
Holland (5579) won silver while the United States (5166) took bronze.
